Presenter:
David Hafler, M.D., Ph.D.,
Breakstone Professor of Neurology (Neuroscience), Harvard Medical School; Physician, Brigham
and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston
Abstract
In today’s tenuous economic climate, research funding is limited in both the
amounts available from government and philanthropic sources and to what those
funds can be applied. Developing a concept into practice often requires
involvement outside Academia. Dr. David Hafler will discuss the flow of ideas
between Academia and Industry, the challenges of this approach and what can
be gained from such interactions.
Objectives
1. Define obstacles to translational medicine in Academia and Industry
2. Analyze examples of when and where in the process one institution can help
the other
3. Demonstrate how this can be applied and/or explored by the participant
