Master of Translational Medicine
The Institute will develop, in conjunction with partner-universities, a postgraduate program that is dedicated educating a professional to overcome the challenges of translational medicine.
During the inaugural Consensus Conference conducted in May of 2008, leaders in translational medicine research, educators, and institutional administrators identified these principle issues in translational medicine:
- Lead identification
- Assessment and analysis of scientific content and opportunity
- Designing clinical trials
- How to protect intellectual property (IP), patent laws
- Identification of target
- Target validation
- Toxicology
- Pharmacology
To address these issues in a learner-driven educational setting, the program will be designed around one week “Summer Camp” conferences conducted three times during the program and to be supplemented and enhanced by distance learning modules between each annual conference.
This innovative international program will provide the opportunity for participants to experience a variety of novel teaching and learning strategies. Learner-centered discussions will be integral to the curriculum and all participants will be provided mentorship with industry leaders and international faculty. A flexible program design will be tailored to individual needs.
The two-year program will be internationally recognized.
Participants will have a degree in medicine, and/or a doctorate in research or equivalent. Most instruction will be given as internships at various qualified institutions where experts in diverse fields will act as mentors. Intensive courses, coinciding with the Consensus Conferences to be held in Siracusa, will provide the theoretic foundation. Eureka will strive to obtain scholarships and full support for participants to cover the mentors and the costs incurred by their institutions.
